Amelia Newcomb clinic program
April 4 & 5, 2025 at Willow Draw, Weatherford, TX

Amelia Newcomb is a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist, and a member of the prestigious USEF Dressage Development Program.  She has trained and competed close to 50 horses in almost 500 competitions, and has trained several horses that she started as youngsters all the way up to the Grand Prix. Amelia hopes one day to compete internationally and to represent the United States at the Olympics.

Amelia Newcomb Dressage is based in Somis, California, where Amelia offers complete and correct dressage training from breaking the young horse through the FEI level.

Amelia Newcomb Dressage works to develop a trusting and confident relationship between horse and rider. Using elements from both natural horsemanship and classical dressage, Amelia creates a holistic approach to dressage training that adapts to fit the needs of each individual horse and rider. Starting with basic groundwork and progressing to the Grand Prix, Amelia emphasizes trust, understanding, and relaxation for both horse and rider.

Amelia also enjoys teaching and sharing her knowledge and experience with her students. “I have been blessed with many great teachers in my career and I hope to help each and every one of my students develop a connection and solid relationship with their horses.” A passionate dressage trainer, with a goal of reaching and helping a larger number of riders than one-on-one in-person training allows, Amelia has expanded her training program to the online community.

“I see online dressage training as the future. Not everyone is lucky enough to have an amazing dressage trainer in their backyard. Amelia’s Dressage Academy provides monthly workshops and in-depth masterclasses, which can provide a map for progress in your dressage journey!”

Carley bly

I spent the first 20+ years of my riding career in the Hunter Jumper world. A few years after retiring my first horse, I ventured into dressage. I had the opportunity to learn from a lovely schoolmaster for 2 years before finding my current partner, Christo. He is a 13 year old Hanoverian, who was previously owned by my trainer. We’ve been together for a year and have competed through PSG, with goals to continue towards Grand Prix. We are currently working on clear communication, building trust, and confidence in going forward to improve our connection and self carriage.

Gianna Escajeda

Gianna is13 year old from Crawford, Texas. She has been riding since 2016.  She started out in Hunter/Jumper but fell in love with eventing in 2020. Currently riding at Training Level in Dressage and Starter Level in Eventing.  Francisco is an 8 year old OTTB, owned since December 2023. Gianna's trainer is Anna Pierce of AMP Equestrian.

Cynthia Burchett

Crescendo is a 10-year-old, 18 hand black gelding imported from Mecklenburg, Germany.  He is out of the breeding combination of Celencio x Sina.  In June 2023, I earned my bronze medal, and in the fall of the same year, I had the privilege of purchasing Crescendo.  While we have focused on showing lower levels, my trainer, Gold Medalist Amatey Wenzel, has successfully brought Crescendo to the fourth Level.  Known for his eagerness to please, Crescendo is a reliable and willing partner in the arena.

I have ridden all my life, with experience ranging from barrel racing and fox hunting to carriage driving competitions.  After taking a 20-year break to start a business and raise my family, I returned to the saddle, and am now focused on my dressage journey.  My primary goal is to maintain consistency in my riding while cultivating a smooth, round connection necessary to progress through all the levels.

lisa flaggert

Lisa is riding Verona "V" who is a master dressage Holsteiner horse, however Lisa is just beginning her dressage career with a horse that knows much more than she does. Lisa feels blessed to have Verona and they have quite the love affair! She is hopeful and grateful for all the quality instruction to help her improve in dressage, and evidently math skills!

Alex Hass

I’m based in Weatherford, Texas, and have been immersed in the horse world for over 25 years. My horse girl journey began as a naughty pony jockey and has taken me through a variety of disciplines, including eventing, show jumping, and competing in the AQHA English events.

Shagtastic H (“Shaggy”) is my 7-year-old Westfalen gelding, whom I proudly bred and raised. While my heart has always been in show jumping, Shaggy truly loves to "dance"—which has inspired me to deepen my training in dressage.

I’m excited to continue learning and growing in the dressage arena with my special boy by my side!

Paula Gregory

Paula Gregory and Louisiana (AKA Louie): Louie is a 16.2h, 18 year old RPSI gelding who has competed up to Prix St. George in dressage. He has been in professional training most of his life and has competed at Regional Championships at Training – PSG.  He is a homebred who is ridden by his AA breeder, owner and exhibitor, Paula Gregory. Paula and Louie have been competing at 3rd level. Louie is exceptionally kind and patient with his “mom”. They hope to fine tune their Third level skills.

Gail Abele

Gail Abele Dressage - Classical Training for Competitive Dressage

Gail is a USDF Bronze/Silver/Gold medalist, “L” judge with distinction, trainer/instructor based out of Southern Comfort Farm in Aubrey Texas for 13 years. Always having a love of horses, her riding began as a pre-teen on an Army base in Japan while Air Force fighter pilot dad was stationed there. She prioritizes the concepts of self-carriage and harmony for horses and riders which are the heart of classical training for top competitive dressage. She continually strives to improve her skills in teaching these concepts to horses and riders.

Baronato is a 2019 German-bred Oldenburg gelding by Bonds x Sir Donnerhall x Rubioso N x Weltmeyer. Owner Diana Cilia imported him to the US in May 2024 for Gail Abele as an FEI prospect. In his debut season showing Training and First level, he impressed with scores up to 75% and won regional championship classes in both levels as well as a few high points and show championships. Baron has proven to be very trainable, eager to learn and extremely personable.

Christine Hutmacher

Christine Hutmacher and BeePea (Black Passion) are working to improve third level challenges. BeePea is an 18 year old Oldenburg. They have been together 11 years.

Julia Baggish

Julia has ridden her entire life but transitioned from the jumper world to dressage at the end of 2022. Julia and her horse Star are pushing towards their goal of competing in small tour. Julia and Star began their journey together two years ago. Star is an 18.3 hand Hanoverian gelding (Sandro Hit x Donnerhall x Rubenstein). Julia and Star are competing this month at 2nd and 3rd level.

Samantha Gabarino

I was born and raised in small village call Milton-Under-Wychwood in Oxfordshire, UK  which is part of The Cotswolds. I grew up working for local stables that had fox hunters and show jumping ponies, they then got into breeding flat race horses and I helped retrain some for second careers mostly eventing and show jumpers.

My current horse, Seb, is an OTTB who I retrained for eventing. We did well and came 9th at USEA champions BN. However, he's not so brave on cross country, and likes dressage, so that's what we concentrate on now. Last year was our first year at USDF shows and I completed my Bronze metal. My plan is to someday do Grand Prix with him! This year we are concentrating on 4th level and possible Prix St. George by end of year.

Joan Kinley

Pensador is a 15 year old Andalusian gelding,  2017 import from the famous Ganaderia Francisco Santiago Ruiz Andalusian farm in Andalusia country Spain. Pensador is a super sensitive horse and had been through 4 owner’s until 2020 when a trial ride turned into Pensador finding his true match. Joan, who has ridden her whole life, was looking for a new partner that could take her to the higher levels of dressage after having a successful eventing career rising up to Intermediate level with her home bred warmblood horses until an injury prevented her main horse from going to the Advanced level. Joan who trained with Denny Emerson, Mike Plumb, and Cindy Thaxton for over 20 plus years had gained a lot of insight on how to ride super sensitive horses so Pensador was a perfect match for her. Both Pensador and Joan over the last four years have been working with their dressage coach Cindy Thaxton on building up Pensador's trust in Joan and Joan working on Pensador's gaps in basics. This consistent patient work on basics, biomechanics, and trust rewarded them by the team placing 6th overall at Regionals last year at Fourth level and put them in a good spot to start competing at FEI level last year. Joan and Pensador continue their work at the Prix St George level and hopefully will be competing at I-1 and 2 by the end of the year.
